Term 3 Maths - Multiplication and Division
This term we have been learning about groups of numbers (Multiplication) and sharing (Division).
We had the problem:
There are some cars in a carpark. There are 6 rows with 5 cars in each row. How many cars are there altogether?
We had to draw what it would look it and then write the equation. There are some examples of our thinking on the yellow paper.
Another problem:
A pirate crew found some treasure. They found 24 pieces of gold. There were 4 pirates in the crew. They need to share out the gold. How many does each pirate get? There are some examples of our thinking on the orange paper.
Term 3 - Inquiry: Encore
This term for Inquiry we have been investigating what it takes to put on a performance. We designed characters for our performance. Some of us were superheroes and some of us were villans. We designed capes and masks for our costumes. We watched some Michael Jackson music videos for some help with our dances. We also wrote our own scripts for a short drama. We had to practice, practice, practice. We then got to film our performances. We learned that it takes a lot of effort to put on a performance!
Pop Art
Do you know which student from room two the picture is? We created these by doing line drawings of ourselves. Ms Steers then did some "magic" photocopying for us and we had 6 pictures of our face. We had to dye our Art using only four colours. You had to make sure you did a different colour for your face and your background.
Paper Mosaic Art
We used lots of little pieces of coloured paper to make a picture. They are called mosaics. Can you guess what shape is in the middle of the picture?
Building Reflection Art
We dyed our background. Then we had to cut out shapes that looked like buildings. We created a reflection!

P.E. - Rakau Sticks
In room two this week we have been learning some movements with Rakau Sticks. We have been learning to move in time with the music and a partner. We have been doing our movements to the song E Papa Waiari. If we have done enough practice we might perform at assembly on Friday!

Gecko Art
This week for Art we made some scratch paintings using crayon, black paint and paperclips. We had to try to make our crayon look really bold and bright. We had to wait overnight for our paint to dry before we did the scratching. Then we scratched our geckos!

Ms Steers
Hi there,
I am the new teacher in room two. I thought I would introduce myself to those of you that I haven't yet met. I come from Dunedin, which is where I completed my university degree in English. I have lived overseas in England and Japan (where I taught English). I did my teacher training right here in Wellington. In my spare time I enjoy snowboarding, bodyboarding, reading, listening to music, travelling, scrapbooking and cooking. I look forward to seeing you around the school.
Ms Christy Steers.

3D Black and White Masks
We have been making masks for Art this term. We had to use a lot of different folding, cutting and curling techniques with black paper to create facial features like hair and eyelashes. We had a lot of fun surprising the junior syndicate by wearing our masks to assembly.

Our Inquiry
We have started our class inquiry. Our starting words were "Earth, Water and Fire"
As a class we talked about all of these words and what we thought of when these words were said. Here are some of our fantastic ideas:
As a class we talked about all of these words and what we thought of when these words were said. Here are some of our fantastic ideas:
- They are elements
- Earth is a rock
- Lots of water can cause a flood
- Earthquakes happen on Earth
And much much more...
From our brainstorm we started to talk about our world. Yolanda asked "why do people do bad things to our world?" This amazing question started a discussion in our class. We talked about what people are doing to our world. We really enjoyed this discussion and decided as a class that this would become our main inquiry question! To get us thinking more about our world we looked at video clips on you tube. We then used our coloured thinking hats to discuss how we felt and what we could do to stop the things that are happening in our world...
Come into our class and look at our inquiry wall to see our 'thinking hat' thinking.

Term One
Welcome to Room 2's blog!
Term 1 is already well underway and in our class we have been doing lots of co-operative games. These games have been encouraging us to work together as a class.
One of the games we played was hoop hop! As a team we had to use our hoops to get from one point to the other... we were not allowed to set outside the hoop or we would have been eaten by sharks ek!
The other game we played was bucket race. As a class we had to pass cups down the line and fill up the empty bucket. We had do much fun!
When we are playing games as a class we need to:
Work together
Encourage each other
Talk nicely to each other
Help others
Help others
Have a look at our cool photos. Keep checking our blog as we will keep updating new things every week!
